Long-snout breeds (Golden Retriever, Labrador, German Shepherd, native stray dogs, Greyhound, etc.) Dogs of these breeds have slender, narrow muzzles. The weight range marked for each size fits them well. Take XL size as an example: muzzle length 8.8cm, max muzzle girth 33cm. Adult long-snout dogs weighing 25–40kg (50–80lbs) can wear the XL muzzle comfortably. 2. Flat/short & wide-muzzle breeds (French Bulldog, English Bulldog, Pug, Shih Tzu, Staffy, Pitbull, etc.) These breeds have large heads, thick cheeks and short, thick muzzles. Their muzzle girth is much wider than long-snout dogs of the same weight. Even if your dog only weighs 20kg (40lbs), its muzzle girth may already reach the 33cm limit of XL size. The muzzle will be tight and uncomfortable, which explains why some buyers find XL too small for dogs under 25kg. Accurate Buying Tips Measure your dog’s muzzle first before ordering: Muzzle length: distance from nose tip to eye socket Muzzle girth: circumference around the thickest part of the muzzle Actual measurements are more reliable than weight. For flat-faced & wide-cheek dogs: We suggest ordering one size up, or pick a special short snout dog muzzle. Within the same breed: Adult male dogs usually have wider jaws and thicker cheeks than females of the same weight. Leave extra room when picking sizes for male dogs.
