Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 July 2026

CoPetz ("CoPetz", "we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect your personal information. We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This policy applies to people who use CoPetz or place an order from any supported destination, while preserving any additional privacy rights that apply in their location.

1. Information We Collect

  • Name, email address, phone number, and password when you create an account or place an order
  • Shipping and billing addresses, and order history
  • Records of your communications with us (support requests and inquiries)
  • Technical and usage data via cookies and analytics, including IP address, device and browser details, referral source, and pages viewed

We do not store full payment card numbers. Card payments are processed securely by our payment provider, Stripe.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Processing, fulfilling, and delivering your orders and quotes
  • Providing customer support and responding to your enquiries
  • Operating business accounts, including credit assessment and account management
  • Improving our website, products, and services
  • Detecting and preventing fraud, and meeting our legal obligations
  • Sending marketing communications where you have consented (see section 6)

3. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies, local storage, and similar browser technologies. Essential storage supports requested functions such as authentication, security, shopping carts, checkout, region and currency selection, saved preferences, and remembering your cookie choice. These technologies operate without optional analytics consent because the website or a feature you request depends on them.

Optional analytics and marketing technologies include CoPetz's first-party usage analytics, Google Analytics, and Meta Pixel when those services are configured. They may process page visits, referral information, device and browser details, approximate location derived from IP address, shopping events, and pseudonymous visitor or session identifiers. We do not load or use these optional technologies unless you select "Accept analytics".

You can refuse optional analytics without losing core shopping functionality. You can also withdraw or change your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" in the website footer. Withdrawing consent stops future optional tracking and removes CoPetz-accessible analytics identifiers and cookies from your browser where technically possible. You can additionally clear cookies and site data through your browser settings.

Other browser-only information may include recently viewed products, wishlist items, display settings, saved guest carts, recent searches, and Emma chat history. It remains on that browser unless synchronised with an account or submitted to us, and can be removed by clearing the relevant feature or browser data.

4. Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We disclose it only where necessary, including to:

  • Couriers and logistics providers, to deliver your orders
  • Payment processors (such as Stripe), to take payment
  • Suppliers and distributors, where needed to fulfil an order or warranty claim
  • Service providers who help us operate our website and business, under confidentiality obligations
  • Single sign-on providers (such as Google and Microsoft) where you choose to use them to log in
  • Law enforcement, regulators, or others where required or permitted by law

Our staff access personal information only where relevant to their role and on a need-to-know basis.

Some suppliers, marketplaces, logistics providers, and technology providers are located outside New Zealand. To fulfil an order, we may need to send the recipient's name, phone number, delivery address, and order details to those providers. We take reasonable steps to use appropriate providers and safeguards, but an overseas recipient may not be required to protect information in a way that is comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act. By placing an order after reading this policy, you authorise the cross-border disclosure needed to process and deliver that order. Contact us before ordering if you do not agree; we may be unable to fulfil the order without that information.

5. Storage and Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. Connections to our website are encrypted using current transport security (TLS 1.2 or above). You are responsible for keeping your account login details confidential and should not share your password with anyone.

6. Marketing and Your Choices

We send marketing communications only where you have opted in, in accordance with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Every marketing message includes an unsubscribe option, and you can also update your preferences in your account or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not affect transactional messages about your orders.

7. Access, Correction, and Deletion

You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, and to request deletion of your account. You can view and update much of your information in your account, or contact us at support@copetz.com. In the CoPetz mobile app, you can delete your account directly from the Account tab — this removes your wishlist, saved addresses, and personal profile details immediately. Order records are kept for the period required by our accounting and tax obligations, described further below.

8. Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy and to meet our legal, accounting, and tax obligations. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to securely delete or de-identify it.

9. Data Breach Notification

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

10. Third-Party Websites

Our website may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time by posting the revised version on our website. Changes apply from the date they are posted. Please review this page periodically.

12. Contact and Complaints

For any privacy question, request, or complaint, contact us at support@copetz.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
